Racetracks on TurfAtlas

TurfAtlas is built North America first: deep, complete coverage of the tracks that race here, with international venues added selectively over time. Here is what that means and where to find it.

North America first

Our coverage centres on North American Thoroughbred racing, sourced primarily from Equibase. That takes in the roughly 110-plus commercial tracks that run in the United States, plus the major Canadian venues led by Woodbine. The range runs from the marquee meets at Churchill Downs, Saratoga, Del Mar, Santa Anita, Belmont and Keeneland down to the year-round regional circuits. For these tracks we hold full race days: results, charts, payouts, entries and the horses, jockeys and trainers behind them.

The complete, browsable directory lives on the all tracks page, grouped by country and region. Each track has its own profile, with surfaces, location, season, and its recent and upcoming race days on its individual page.

International coverage is limited

Racing is a global sport. Australia has the most courses of any country, well over 400 registered venues; France operates more than 250 hippodromes; and Great Britain, Ireland and Japan each anchor major racing cultures. Hong Kong, by contrast, wields enormous influence from just two tracks, Sha Tin and Happy Valley.

TurfAtlas covers only a fraction of that world today. We add international tracks selectively, prioritising the meets that matter most to North American pedigrees and the big global races. If a track outside North America is not yet listed, it has not been brought into the warehouse yet. The directory reflects what we actively ingest, not the full global map.

A note on track counts

Counting racetracks is surprisingly slippery. Totals swing depending on whether harness, fair-circuit and quarter-horse venues are included, and the map keeps changing. Singapore's Kranji, for example, held its final meeting in late 2024. TurfAtlas focuses on Thoroughbred flat racing, so our directory reads leaner than the broadest published tallies. That is by design.
