Who we are
TurfAtlas is a horse-racing results and statistics website. This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and what we do with it. It covers the public website; if we later add accounts or paid products, this policy will be updated before those features go live.
What we collect
- Server logs. Like all websites, our servers automatically record requests: IP address, the page requested, timestamp, referrer and browser user-agent. We use these for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing problems.
- Cookies and local storage. We use a small number of first-party cookies and browser storage entries the site needs to work. Examples are a session cookie, a security (CSRF) token, and short-lived flags that remember one-off dismissals within a session. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- Email you give us. If you join the premium waitlist, we store the email address you submit so we can notify you when premium features open. We use it for that purpose only and do not sell or share it.
- Aggregate analytics. We measure overall site usage in aggregate to understand what is useful and to keep the service reliable. This includes the ad-block measurement described below.
Ad-block measurement
We are preparing to ask visitors who use an ad-blocker to consider allowing our ads, and before doing that we measure how many visitors block ads. We want to be explicit about how that measurement works, because it involves a script and beacon that a privacy-minded visitor deserves to know about:
- What we do. Every page includes a small, hidden "bait" element and loads a first-party script served from our own domain. Our own code then checks two things: whether the bait element has been hidden, and whether that script was blocked from loading. Ad-blockers characteristically do both.
- Purpose. The sole purpose is to measure how many visitors use an ad-blocker, in aggregate. It is a counting exercise, not fingerprinting or tracking.
- What is sent. Only when both signals point to an ad-blocker does the browser send a single small beacon to
/_metrics/adblockon our own servers, at most once per browsing session. The beacon reports that an ad-blocker was detected and which page it was on. It sets no advertising identifier and is not shared with any third party. As with any request, our server log also records the usual IP and user-agent for that beacon. - Third parties. The bait element, the script and the beacon are all first-party. They involve no advertising network or external tracker.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- operate, secure and improve the website;
- prevent abuse, scraping and fraud, and diagnose technical problems;
- understand aggregate usage, including ad-block prevalence;
- contact waitlist subscribers about the launch of premium features.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that host and operate the site on our behalf (for example our hosting and email infrastructure), and where we are legally required to do so.
Retention
Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and diagnostics and then rotated. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them or the waitlist is retired. Ad-block measurement is stored in aggregate.
Your choices
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser; some site functions may not work without the essential ones.
- You may keep using an ad-blocker. The measurement described above records that it is present, and does nothing further at this stage.
- You can ask us to remove your waitlist email at any time using the contact details below.
Children
The site is intended for adults and is not directed at children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date before they take effect.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or requests about your information, can be sent to our support address. We will respond within a reasonable time.
