Chart notes
THUNDER GRUNDER was unhurried early, began a strong run two wide between horses into the far turn, came out three wide for room midway on the bend, ran clear into the stretch and was put to mild late urging. SPRING EMPEROR showed speed between horses, moved two wide to a short lead into the far turn but couldn't stay with the winner through the lane. DIGGERS DIAMOND made the early pace between horses then faltered. BUILT THAT WAY was steadied in tight between horses around the first turn, moved to the front from the outside early on the backstretch, remained prominent while four wide into the stretch then weakened. WON THE CASE had early position inside then tired. SMIRK chased the early pace for about five furlongs then tired. BRONX SANDMAN was no factor.
