Chart notes
OLD HOMESTEAD disputed a fast pace outside SCARAMOUCHE, sprinted clear in mid stretch and was kept to his business in the drive. NIMITZ CLASS stumbled leaving the starting gate, was behind horses while off the duel, swung four deep leaving the turn and rallied outside. SCARAMOUCHE showed speed along the inner rail, disputed the pace, failed to keep up with the winner in upper stretch, drifted out near the eighth pole and drifted out in deep stretch. DEFEND , snugly rated off the duel down the backstretch, eased out three wide leaving the turn, was lightly brushed by SCARAMOUCHE in midstretch and approaching the finish. ALOTTAHOPE saved ground around the turn while off the duel, eased off the rail in upper stretch, lacked clear racing room, moved back inside approaching the sixteenth pole and failed to menace. An objection by the rider of DEFEND against SCARAMOUCHE for alleged interference in deep stretch was not allowed.
