Chart notes
MENDEL'S SECRET showed good early speed to set the early pace, dug in near the eighth pole and prevailed under all out pressure in a determined run. DECANTED stalked the pace, from the outside, raced two to three wide in the stretch and finished gamely to the wire to just miss. JUNIPERO SERRA was allowed to settle to midpack early on, raced six wide into the upper stretch and moved up to improve position to improve position. FORTUNE was rated along off the top pair early, raced along the inside into the upper stretch and kept on willingly to the wire. EVALUATE was off slowly, raced with the second flight in the early going, was four deep near the quarter pole and had not enough in the drive. SIVAKO was off slowly, raced two to three wide in the stretch run and had no late rally. DONEGAL FACTOR rated off the top flight, raced near the rail in the stretch run and lacked a bid. BAYTOWN BEAVER raced off the early pace, was three to four wide in the stretch and lacked a rally. THE RED FOX dropped to back of the pack early, raced five wide near the quarter pole and had no late response while racing from the outside. SPENCER'S BOY LUNA settled off the early pace, raced three deep through the upper stretch and never threatened. MARGARET BURBIDGE tracked the early leader from the outside and faded.
