Chart notes
BIRDIE MACHINE showed good early speed along the inside, dug in past the eighth pole and prevailed under all out pressure. SOVIET STANDARD pressed the pace from the outside of foe and kept on gamely to the wire. CAPTAIN CARNEGIE chased the early pace racing three deep and kept on to the wire. FAITHFUL KING was coaxed along from the inside and weakened through the drive. CHIEF MYSTIQUE was off a step slow, raced along the inside down the backstretch through the far turn, angled through the upper stretch and never threatened. CLASSOFSIXTYSEVEN raced along the inside early on, checked sharply near the three eighths pole, angled out and never menaced.
