Chart notes
BUCK OWENS tracked outside a rival four wide into the turn, asked three wide late on the bend, drew alongside the leaders midstretch, took over at the sixteenth pole and drove clear. STAN FROM MALIBU pressed the pace from outside, raced on even terms midway around the bend, took over in upper stretch but got outkicked by the winner in deep stretch. TOM HORN set the pace with STAN FROM MALIBU to the outside, headed midway around the turn, dueled into the lane, lost command in upper stretch, fought on to the sixteenth pole then faltered late. MONTANA stalked the top pair up the backstretch, asked two wide on the turn, angled inside in upper stretch and weakened. REEF CITY sat off the pace early on, took the turn two then three wide and failed to menace. COUNTRY BOY was off a bit slow from outside, trailed outside a rival early, rounded the bend four wide, moved inward at the top of the lane and came up empty.
