Chart notes
BATTLE CREEK allowed to settle, moved up into the second turn, gained position three wide through the turn, bid on that path into the stretch, made a steady gain and edged up in the final strides. CLEMSON TIGER well placed and inside, angled out to the two path through the second turn, bid three wide outside the leader into the stretch, edged ahead, then shook clear and was outfinished. BIJEMINI SLEW well placed, saved ground through the turns, came through inside of rivals into the stretch and evened out, gaining the show. GOODTIME ARTIE unhurried, looped four and five wide through the second turn, fanned widest into the stretch and passed tiring rivals. JAMA DILLON sprinted away from the field early, stayed on when challenged into the stretch, then faded the final furlong. K. K. ICHIKAWA was never involved. GOLDEN OAK well placed and outside, faded through the second turn.
