Chart notes
CANTUCCI had the lead outside horses in the beginning, was then content to track the pacesetter along the backside, started to edge closer, measuring the leader at the three furlong marker, bid outside at the furlong pole and wore down the rival in the shadow of the wire for the score. ABSOLUTE CHAIRMAN pressed the lead inside early on, took over command by the half, dictated the pace going comfortably around the bend, was challenged on the outside with a furlong to go, fought on until late but gave way grudgingly just before the finish line. SPANISH SERENADE watched the top two down the backstretch, was roused for more three eighths out, but could only keep pace with the leaders through the turn, was encouraged left handed in upper stretch, shifted outside in the three path at the furlong marker and kept on trying until the end to hold for third money. BILL NEEDLE stalked in the third flight in the two path inside a rival the majority of the race, shifted out four wide straightening for home, was gaining on the leaders through the stretch but could not improve his position when crossing the finish at the end. BAR TALK settled in mid-pack in the beginning, saved ground but made little progression throughout the turn, shifted out three wide while inside runners turning for home and finished up evenly down the lane. THIS KATZ FOR REAL was ahead of only one rival down the back straight, offered a mild run when angling off foes three wide at the quarter pole, continued outside rivals in the six path at the top of the lane but lacked a finish driving to the wire. DIXIE'S FLATTER stalked near the rear in the three path outside horses, made little progression around the turn, shifted out to be three wide for the drive but could not reach contention in the stretch drive. CHASING BOURBON settled on the outside of a rival in the third flight in the early stages of the race, was scrubbed on but was going in the wrong direction by the quarter pole and faltered down the stretch. HOLIDAY IN CHILE was unhurried trailing down the backstretch, could not get interested through the turn and could not be a factor in the stretch running.
