Chart notes
WICKED GUS bumped shortly after the start, was altered to the outside, advanced in hand to share the lead on the backstretch, did not keep up three wide on the second bend, was roused leaving that turn, came into the lane five wide, edged ahead inside the final sixteenth and began to draw off nearing the wire. MR. CHIVAS hustled from the gate early, was outrun into the first turn, vied for the lead between SPEIGHTIEMAN and WICKED GUS on the backstretch, did not stay with SPEIGHTIEMAN on the second bend, was crowded briefly by the latter midstretch and claimed second in the waning yards. SPEIGHTIEMAN caught in tight quarters shortly after the break, bumped WICKED GUS, was sent to gain the advantage into the first turn, moved to the rail, drew clear, was relaxed from just off the inside on the backstretch, moved ahead of the rest again when allowed into the second bend, drifted out some briefly upper stretch, held a straight path three wide the last furlong and gradually wore down. SOLOMON VANDY raced in the second flight not far off the inside on the backstretch, was two then three wide taking the second turn, altered in some when SPEIGHTIEMAN took his path nearing the eighth pole, had every chance after that but finished evenly. JUSTICEONEMORETIME well placed from inside, weakened the final furlong. PETE'S LEGACY a brief factor early, began to fade from just off the inside on the backstretch, stayed just off the rail the rest of the way and had no stretch bid. GUN IT AND RUN IT a bit awkward at the start, showed little in a wide trip.
