Chart notes
MOTHER'S PRAYER hopped at the start and spotted the field a bit of a head start, bided time near the rear of the field, stayed about three wide, gradually advanced down the backstretch, waited patiently for racing room through the far turn, took advantage of a big hole on the rail into the stretch and ran on well under strong handling to get up in time despite drifting out. MEANT FOR ME broke well and showed good speed from the gate, gained the lead into the first bend and emerged in front for the backstretch run, opened up on the field when QUE SERA SIR RALPH dropped of the pace, came into the stretch with the lead and a host of challengers just behind, kept on gamely to the wire and outfinished all but the winner in a good effort. FIFTY CINCO vied for the early lead from the break, was floated three wide through the clubhouse turn then settled mid-pack, launched a bid with three furlongs to run, came four wide into the stretch and finished well under steady handling and intermittent urging but was out finished by the top pair. CREATIVE BID was floated four wide into the first bend, came out of the turn at the back of the pack, launched a sustained bid from the seven-sixteenths pole, circled the field through the far turn, came six wide into the stretch and finished willingly but could not crack the top three. HEAT N REHEAT raced close up between horses early, tracked behind the pace three wide down the backstretch, attempted to go after MEANT FOR ME on the lead with three furlongs to run but did not respond. NOLDE not asked for speed from the break, pulled forward to be up with the leading group before the half, was poised to make a bid heading to the quarter pole but came up empty in the stretch. UPSTART YANKEE was outrun to the first turn but saved ground and advanced into contention down the backstretch, started to struggle to keep pace after passing the half-mile pole, steadily dropped back, was not persevered with and galloped out to the finish. QUE SERA SIR RALPH got caught five wide contending for the lead going into the first turn, circled the field and was up to press MEANT FOR ME coming out of that turn, weakened near the three furlong pole, dropped out of the race and was not a factor from that point.
