Chart notes

ANCIENT MAN was kept close from outside, circled rivals on the bend, was clear on the lead leaving the turn and kept MINING CAMP at bay under steady handling. MINING CAMP a step slow at the break, raced in contention between rivals, was three wide on the bend, angled in some for the stretch run, moved clear for second, could not close the gap on the leader but was unchallenged for the place. CUTADAY was sent to contest the pace from inside, yielded some into the turn, was steadied when his path narrowed past the three-furlong marker, altered out briefly, came into the lane from along the rail, altered outside MINING CAMP upper stretch, drew clear for third then could only maintain his position. CAPTAIN'S FLAG displayed early speed between horses, did not stay with ANCIENT MAN on the turn, floated out some entering the stretch and flattened out. ANUNKA was hustled to vie for the lead while toward the outside, was just off the rail leaving the turn, angled out widest at the top of the stretch and gave way. SENOR MIKE rank at the start and leaving the chute, was pulled up and walked off. There was a stewards' inquiry into SENOR MIKE'S start but no action was taken after their review.
