SMILE BABY SMILE was sent for the lead from the break and had to contend with CASTAGNA through the first turn, also intent on getting the lead, came out of the turn in front and proceeded to slow the pace down the backstretch despite that foe being a constant shadow to the outside, maintained a short lead to the far turn, dug in when challenged in the stretch, finished determinedly under strong handling to prevail. CASTAGNA broke well and pressed SMILE BABY SMILE from the outside from the start, made a bid for the lead approaching the quarter pole, pulled even but could not get by down the stretch. TROJAN WAY took back early, made a middle move four wide along the backstretch, took back to chase three wide into the turn, bid between runners into stretch, found best stride late and rallied into third. OH ANGEL pressed three wide to the half-mile marker then started to drop back, was not a factor i the late stages. YOUR ROYAL FLYNESS lacked any speed and raced well behind the rest or the first half-mile, started to run on some on the far turn, came five wide into the stretch and was mildly gaining but never a serious threat. ZAFFERANA tracked behind the pacesetters and close up to the far turn, did not have much of a response when called upon after passing the three furlong pole then was outrun in the stretch.
