Chart notes
MONTEBELLO broke out at the start, angled out early then tracked the pace on the outside, made a bid leaving the backstretch, vied in the three path on the turn, fought on well in the stretch, took the lead near the sixteenth-pole and prevailed under strong urging. VALENZAN DAY was well placed just off the pace, came under encouragement while inside to the two path on the turn, swung out to the six path into upper stretch, chased outside into the final furlong, gained into the final sixteenth and got up for the place. BEACHWALKER settled well back on the outside, rallied in the four path on the turn, made a bid outside the quarter-pole, took the lead in the five path into upper stretch, led under a drive until outside the sixteenth-pole then was headed and weakened but was clear for the show. SCARAMANGA moved out while going to the front, dropped in early on the backstretch, was asked in the two path on the turn, lost the advantage in the three path into upper stretch and gave way. WILD BANKER broke a step slow, was urged along near the back, rounded the turn in the two to three path and failed to threaten. HIGHER QUALITY was very fractious in the post parade, angled in early while dropping well off the pace, saved ground on the turn and was no factor.
