Chart notes
OLD CHESTNUT was under a tight hold assuming the lead down the backside, rationed out his speed just holding up top throughout the turn, edged away when encouraged right-handed in upper stretch and was kept to the task in the late stages to hold off the persistent runner up who just would not go away. SIMCOE tracked with runners on either side along the back straight, moved in around the turn to battle outside bobbing heads for the lead with a quarter mile from home, chased the winner who spurted away mildly in upper stretch, stayed on the wrong lead to the finish line, nonetheless still tried with one last surge in deep stretch but just came up short at the wire with his relentless pursuit. RED RIVER REBEL shadowed the leader three deep on the outside, edged up still going three wide on the turn to force the issue, angled out in the four path in the fray up front outside horses turning for home, was gaining steadily in the final eighth of a mile but could not get to the top pair when crossing the finish line. PAINTTHETOWNSILVER had a stalking position ahead of a couple of runners down the back straight, kept pace inside foes around the bend, shifted out four wide straightening out for the drive and came with a good late rally to get up for a minor role in the end. BOSTON TEA PARTY settled on the rail in mid-division, had a nice set up all alone watching the dueling trio midway around the bend, waited for the cue to move at the quarter pole, sat behind the embattled pair in upper stretch but stalled inside of horses in the final sixteenth of a mile. GILT EDGE travelled on the outside in midfield, could not keep pace with the lead group dropping back a touch at the three furlong pole, angled out six wide for the stretch run, was closing late but had to much to do in the final furlong. SOCIETY'S THUNDER stalked three deep on the outside near the rear, rallied mildly on the outside around horses four wide on the turn, shifted out widest in the seven path for the drive to the wire had little to show in the stretch running. ROCKCREST was away slowly spotting the field on the break, trailed the group along the backside, offered a brief rally on the fence narrowing the margin on the leader throughout the turn, had little left inside rivals at the furlong pole and weakened late.
