Chart notes
RAGING TORRENT was closest in pursuit from outside, bid two wide on the turn, took over in upper stretch, cleared while drifting inward past the eighth pole and was kept busy to the wire. STRONGHOLD stalked the lone leader outside IMAGINATION early, chased three wide around the bend, finished willingly through the lane but had to settle for second best. IMAGINATION stalked the pacesetter up the backstretch, waited on the inside behind PILOT COMMANDER through the turn, gained an opening exiting the bend, challenged from the fence at the top of the lane, drifted out and bumped PILOT COMMANDER with a furlong remaining and got outkicked for second. PILOT COMMANDER broke well then bobbled shortly after at the start, recovered quickly and set the pace in the early going, entered the turn along the rail, took pressure from RAGING TORRENT around the bend, came off the fence slightly approaching the stretch, was overtaken past the three-sixteenths pole, got bumped by IMAGINATION with a furlong remaining and flattened to fourth. WINTERFELL unhurried in the beginning, raced outside a rival at the back, took the turn two wide, moved out in upper stretch and whittled the gap on the leaders late. MYSTIK DAN dropped back early, hugged the rail around the bend and was never a factor. THERE WAS A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INVOLVING THE STRETCH RUN BETWEEN IMAGINATION AND PILOT COMMANDER. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS RULED THAT ALTHOUGH IMAGINATION DID LUG OUT AND MAKE CONTACT WITH PILOT COMMANDER IT DID NOT AFFECT THE ORIGINAL ORDER OF FINISH AND THERE WOULD BE NO CHANGE.
