Chart notes
VENGE was hustled from the gate, moved up to dispute the pace on the inside, came off the rail near the five-sixteenths pole, turned into the stretch in the three path, drew away into the final sixteenth, drifted out late and proved much the best under steady urging. MR. SWAGGER checked sharply between horses early, was urged along on the outside, chased in the four path on the turn, remained on his inside lead in the stretch and safely secured the place. WINTER'S GHOST brushed with a rival at the start, angled in while showing speed, disputed the pace between horses then outside a rival after the three-quarter pole, vied in the two then three path on the turn, turned into the stretch in the four path, dropped back into the final furlong and weakened while just able to get the show. PRINCE OF JOY had his head turned at the start and was off slow, raced off the pace while urged along, traveled around the turn in the four path, turned into the stretch in the six path and lacked the needed response. FRONT MAN brushed with a rival at the start, was urged along near the back, rounded the turn in the three to four path, spun into the stretch in the five path then shifted to the seven path and failed to threaten. HIGHER QUALITY was urged along at the rear, moved from the two path to the four path on the turn, dropped back to the three path late on that bend and was no factor. BECAUSE THE NIGHT was coaxed along off the pace, moved in near the nine-sixteenths, shifted from the rail to the three path on the turn, entered the stretch in the four path and came up empty. BAR FOURTEEN showed speed from the outside then chased the pace, dropped back near the five-eighths pole, raced in the three path on the turn and tired. PIPES AND DRUMS settled off the pace, dropped from the two path to the rail under urging on the turn and failed to respond. CO CONSPIRATOR was hustled from the gate, showed speed between horses for the opening quarter-mile then dropped back, fell to the rear in the two path on the turn and faltered.
