Chart notes
RAYMOND last away, lacked speed, two path and between horses into the lane, switched to the outside for room, roused, finished full of run to win going away. DERBY DATE forwardly placed early while out in the strip, pressed three wide through the turn, continued to vie through upper stretch, drifted in slightly to help tighten up ESPIONAGE with a furlong to run, proved no match for the winner late, clearly second best. MARTINI BLU moved up to force the issue into the turn in the two path, contested the pace through the turn between horses, gained a larger advantage by midstretch, drifted out a bit to also help tighten up ESPIONAGE with a furlong to run, weakened, managed to save the show late. ESPIONAGE raced toward the front in traffic midway up the backstretch, tracked the first flight through the turn just off the inside, was tightened up with a furlong to run, moved out and finished up evenly. AXTON lacked early foot out in the strip, four wide into the turn, fanned seven wide exiting when beginning to rally, continued to advance mildly through the lane while remaining widest to improve position. WITHOUT OBJECTION away well, cleared toward the inside when showing the way up the backstretch, vied through the turn closest to the rail, gave way in the drive. LARRY'S LEGEND in tight in some traffic midway up the backstretch, two path into the turn, moved out to be four wide for the drive, went evenly to the wire. KNICKS STORY lacked speed outside, four to six wide through the turn, between horses entering the stretch, lacked a rally. CAPTAIN JACK in mid pack outside, four wide through the turn, tired in the drive. DEFLATER was finished early three wide. MAN ON THE MOON in mid pack, saved ground turn, had nothing for the drive. A CLAIM OF FOUL BY THE RIDER OF ESPIONAGE AGAINST THE RUNNER UP FOR ALLEGED INTERFERENCE IN MIDSTRETCH WAS DISALLOWED.
