Chart notes
DAGGER RANCH broke a step slow but moved up to bid for the lead after about a furlong was run, vied inside of three on the lead, battled with G G GILLEY for the length of the stretch, appeared to be beaten in deep stretch but found another gear in the final yards and surged to the front near the wire. G G GILLEY broke well then contested the early pace between horses, held that position through the turn, took a short lead at the top of the stretch then was unable to fend off a resurgent and determined DAGGER RANCH in the final yards. GONZAGA veered out at the start but still made the running through the initial furlong, was joined to the inside by DAGGER RANCH and G G GILLEY heading into the turn, vied for the lead on the outside as the trio turned for home then had some trouble changing leads, lost some ground, straightened out then was coming back on but ran out of time. YELLOW JACKET tracked mid-pack to the inside to the top of the stretch then finished evenly. ROYAL CURLIN devoid of early speed, saved ground and rallied under strong handling and urging and was making up ground in the late stages while never a threat. SPEAKING LOUD raced at the back of the forward group through the early stages, was pressed to keep pace through the turn, tipped out three wide for the stretch run, had difficulty switching leads and was not a factor in the late stages. EL ENCANTO tracked on the outside of the pack in the early running, launched a tepid bid still three wide on the turn the flattened out in the stretch and tired.
