Chart notes
ELEGANT BOY broke well and was forwardly placed without being asked, tracked three wide under a snug hold through the early stages, was let loose after passing the half, then put into a stiff drive from the five-sixteenths, did battle with HEAT N REHEAT in the stretch, gained the advantage inside the furlong grounds and won clear. HEAT N REHEAT broke well then took over the pacesetting duties after passing the six furlong marker, was left alone to carve out the early fractions, battled back when confronted by ELEGANT BOY at the quarter pole, kept on gamely to deep stretch the gave way grudgingly in the final yards. KEEN HEIR went three wide through the first turn then settled at the rear of the tracking group, was coaxed to go forward after passing the half-mile pole, advanced four wide through the turn, flattened out some in the stretch while on the left lead but was kept to task, finished well to earn the third spot and was well clear of the next horse. KYSTONE got good inside position from the break, tracked mid-pack through the early stages while saving ground throughout, launched a mild bid from the quarter pole into the stretch but could not sustain the bid. RONAMO got caught five wide into the clubhouse turn, advanced to be up with the early leaders while racing four to five wide down the backstretch, launched a bid after passing the seven-sixteenths pole, loomed at the top of the stretch but flattened out. NICE GUY EDDIE was hustled to get forward position and gained the inside and the lead through the first turn, ceded the lead to HEAT N REHEAT as the field turned down the backstretch, began to struggle to keep up after passing the half then faded the rest of the trip. RAILWAY raced near the rear of the field through the early going, was put into a drive from the seven-sixteenths pole but did not respond and was not persevered with in the late stages. AFFABLE MONARCH was not asked for speed from the break but pulled through the first turn, came off the bit as the field headed down the backstretch, was coaxed along to keep contact with the field, but showed little interest, was guided six wide on the last turn and allowed to gallop to the wire.
