KOPION pressed HOPE ROAD from outside up the backstretch, took the lead with a quarter mile remaining, drove clear in upper stretch, drifted in a bit at the eighth pole but was quickly corrected, then powered away under strong handling late. HOPE ROAD showed the way early under pressure from KOPION to the outside, headed by that rival past the five-sixteenths pole, relinquished the lead at the quarter pole, yielded in upper stretch, moved off the fence in deep stretch and held second. RICHI (CHI) stalked the top pair from inside, followed behind HOPE ROAD through the turn, moved out in the lane and could not produce a bid. SPLENDORA stalked off the inside, asked three wide around the turn, chased outside RICHI (CHI) entering the lane, got floated out a bit by that rival and weakened.
