Chart notes
CAP COM chased the pace down the backstretch, bid for the lead between horses entering the far turn, dueled inside DERBYNESS through the stretch, drifted out late and gamely prevailed. DERBYNESS , three wide both turns, gained the led mid way on the far turn, battled outside CAP COM through the stretch, drifted out late and just missed. COLLECTION DAY went clear soon after the start, saved ground on both turns and weakened in the stretch run. WAR MASTER raced in the two path on the first turn, advanced four deep leaving the far turn and lacked the necessary late effort. VIRGINIA CITY stayed along the inner rail down the backstretch and into the far turn, swung to the four path in upper stretch and failed to be a factor. HORNBEAM remained along the inner rail and was outrun.
