Chart notes
LEADING THE CAUSE laid off the pace in the four path, loomed up to bid three wide midway around the turn, stuck his head in front while back in the four path at the top of the stretch, and stayed on to inch ahead in the closing stages. BRONTE DIEM pressed the pace in the four path, took the lead while tipping into the two path entering the far turn, faced an outer challenger midway around the far turn, dug in but lost the lead in upper stretch, and was second best. SEARCHIN SAFARI bobbled at the start, rated in the two path, was ridden into the far turn, floated out to the five path turning into the lane, but was one paced. HE BLUE BAYOU tracked in the three path, dropped back midway down the backstretch, floated out to the six path turning into the stretch, and did not threaten. LIFE ON THE NILE set the pace in the three path but gave way. This race was originally hand timed and was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate final time available.
