Chart notes
MONTEREY PENINSULA away alertly, set the pace under pressure from the runner up while two wide, drifted in under right handed urging nearing the sixteenth pole and edged clear late under strong handling. ROTARY DIAL pressured the winner along the inside into the stretch, was shut off by that one nearing the sixteenth marker, checked and shifted outside the winner and finished well clear for second. JARETH allowed to settle along the inside, swung wide at the top of the stretch and finished the best of the rest in the seven path. KOSCIUSZKO well placed, failed to respond. GILLIGAN stalked the pace through the turn then gave way. ROYAL AIR FORCE was outrun. SIR had brief speed. THE STEWARDS POSTED THE INQUIRY SIGN AND THE RIDER OF ROTARY DIAL LODGED A CLAIM OF FOUL AGAINST THE RIDER OF THE WINNER FOR INTERFERENCE NEAR THE SIXTEENTH POLE, AFTER REVIEW THE STEWARDS DISQUALIFIED MONTEREY PENINSULA AND PLACED HIM SECOND.
