Chart notes
PRINCE VALIANT was hustled to the front then showed the way, controlled the action while inside on the turn, responded well when asked near the quarter-pole, came under a right-handed crop in upper stretch and extended the advantage under steady urging to prove much the best. SOONTOBEKING tracked the pace down the backstretch, chased in the two path on the turn, turned into the stretch under the crop, pursued the winner in the drive and finished with good courage while second best. NATIONAL IDENTITY settled just off the pace on the inside, drafted behind the leader while under restraint along the rail on the turn, was asked turning into upper stretch and came up empty while clearly best of the rest. HUGGY raced between foes early then settled at the rear, was urged along late on the backstretch, traveled around the turn in the two path, turned into upper stretch under a drive and had nothing left. IN THE CHASE was last away then moved up on the outside to race just off the pace, chased in the three path on the turn, dropped back late on that bend and faltered.
