Chart notes
SAND CREEK broke well but ceded the lead while holding the rail position through the first turn, was close up through the early stages and pulled into a tight spot approaching the half-mile marker, backed off losing a length or two then moved out a path or two for clear run, chased the leading pair to the stretch, under a stiff drive, was kept to task in the lane, gained the lead inside the sixteenth despite racing on the wrong lead and held on to the finish. TOP OF THE WORLD lacked any early speed and spent the first half of the race well behind the rest, chasing two wide with the late-breaking GOSPEL FOREST, stated a sustained run with about three furlongs to run, came four wide into the stretch, raced on the left lead, finished up well but came up short in the end. DOUBLE R CAT was sent hard from the break and caught three wide on the first turn, pressed close up three wide down the backstretch, bid for the lead approaching the quarter pole, pulled ahead but was unable to hold back a pair of closers in the final yards. FRONT ROW SHOW was hustled from the gate, ceded the lead into the first turn but pulled even and dueled with GOSPEL GENTLEMAN to the half, was left alone when that foe dropped out at that point, was soon pressed by DOUBLE R CAT through the turn, lost the lead to that rival passing the quarter pole, kept on with a grinding run down the stretch but was outfinished and missed out on a minor award. GOSPEL FOREST restless in the gate and missed the break, spotted the field a head start and settled behind the field along the rail, pulled up alongside fellow trailer TOP OF THE WORLD turning on to the backstretch, was advancing steadily to the main pack when forced to steady to avoid a tiring GOSPEL GENTLEMAN at the head of the far turn, regained momentum and tried to rally but was unable to regain contact with the field. GOSPEL GENTLEMAN came away from the gate intent on the early lead, led around the bend then was joined by FRONT ROW SHOW to the half, retreated rapidly from that point and was eased to the wire. NIGHTLINGER dropped far behind early, was pulled up on the backstretch, vetted and given a ride off the track in the equine ambulance. This race was originally hand timed and was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate time.
