Chart notes
PERFECT EDGE dueled with ARKANSAS ZONG early, put that foe away near the five-sixteenths pole then led the way into the stretch with a host ready to challenge, responed when set down at the top of the stretch and held sway under steady handling and intermittent urging to prevail. SAINT PETER'S BAY made some light contact from both sides while being hustled early, tracked three wide with the second flight down the backstretch, advanced to the dueling leaders through the turn, bid under a drive from the quarter pole, had aim on the eventual winner but could not get by. GRAND ACADEMIC was last away and trailed inside to the turn, launched a bid from the three furlong pole, swung five wide into the stretch and finished well under strong handling and urging to claim third. LICK SKILLET broke well but allowed to settled at the rear, started a bid in tandem with GRAND ACADEMIC on the turn, came six wide into the stretch and finished well but could not crack the top three. POP'S PEPPYSTEPER was a little slow into stride, tracked inside in the middle of the pack, saved ground on the turn, waited behind horses into the stretch then finished with some interest under urging but was not good enough. FLASHY LOVER raced mid-pack three wide then lacked a finishing bid. CONTRABANDIST broke out and brushed with SAINT PETER'S BAY at the break, tracked close up to the two leaders to the turn, weakened passing the five-sixteenths marker and was was not a factor in the late stages. ARKANSAS ZONG broke well, sent to the front, gave way quarter pole and faltered in he stretch.
