HUDSON RIDGE stalked in the two path then drew alongside BRUCKNER leaving the clubhouse turn, moved up on even terms around the second bend, took over at the quarter pole, put BRUCKNER away in upper stretch while being confronted by BALDORO to the outside, held a short lead over a pair of rivals on both sides into the final sixteenth, got bumped in the hindquarters inside that marker and held gamely. BALDORO stalked along the rail, shifted to the two path on the far turn, latched onto HUDSON RIDGE in upper stretch but could not summon the needed final kick. KAWAZAKI (IRE) tracked the pacesetter from the rail position, saved ground through the far turn as well, tipped two wide into the stretch, angled back inward looking to rally inside HUDSON RIDGE but got put in tight, lost action and bumped with that rival past the sixteenth pole and lost all late momentum. AMERICAN EMPIRE was off a bit slow, trailed on the inside, raced outside a rival on the backstretch, continued at the back two wide then moved back to the rail late on the bend and weakened. BRUCKNER cleared and crossed over to the rail from the outside, took pressure approaching the backstretch, maintained command up the backstretch, dueled on the far turn and lost command at the quarter pole, yielded in upper stretch and weakened in the furlong grounds. HULA CANDY stalked outside a rival to the far turn, got moved out to the three path early on the second bend and faded down the lane. THERE WAS A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INVOLVING HUDSON RIDGE AND KAWAZAKI (IRE) LATE IN THE STRETCH RUN. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS UNANIMOUSLY RULED THAT KAWAZAKI (IRE) HESITATED GOING THROUGH A TIGHT OPENING ALONG THE RAIL AND MADE CONTACT WITH HUDSONG RIDGE AND THEREFORE NO ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN.
