Chart notes
LITTLE STEVEN , away awkwardly, recovered and moved up three deep nearing the first turn to join the pace fray, sparred outside NEW YEAR SURPRISE through the backstretch run and final turn, shook clear in upper stretch, kept on under steady handling and turned away NATHANIEL'S HOPE. NATHANIEL'S HOPE had speed between foes then rated back off the leaders around the first turn, saved ground within range, crept closer and worked outward past the five sixteenths, straightened four wide for the drive, kept grinding from the outside through the final furlong, drifted out and slowly gained. NEW YEAR SURPRISE had speed to take over from outer foes into the first turn, was engaged into the backstretch by the winner, sparred with that one to the five sixteenths, stayed close past mid stretch then gave way grudgingly. LINE TO GAIN , off the contested pace, came four to five wide for the drive, shifted in some, chased outside a rival past mid stretch but came up empty. SHARP STICK was rated back from between foes soon after the break, stalked outside a rival near the five eighths, chased to the inside of a foe leaving mid stretch but failed to generate a rally.
