Chart notes
FREE DANCE was ridden along on the outside, went around the turn in the three then four path, came five wide into the stretch, rallied outside to get the lead outside the sixteenth-pole then drew away under strong urging. ARMY PROUD was urged along near the middle of the field, rounded the turn in the three path, was drive into the stretch in the four path, gained while inside of the winner and remaining on his left-lead, chased into the final furlong, moved in outside the sixteenth-pole, remained on his inside lead to the finish and was second best. MAGIC BEACH was away alertly from the outside post, showed speed then chased the pace, made a bid in the four path on the turn, gained the advantage at the five-sixteenths pole then moved clear at the quarter-pole, was guided out while remaining on his inside lead near the furlong marker, lost the advantage to the winner outside the sixteenth-pole and weakened while continuing on his inside lead but was clear for the show. NINE N FOUR was off a step slow then taken up, angled out early then was hard ridden towards the rear, dropped in late on the backstretch, moved from the rail to the four path on the turn, came out to the seven path into upper stretch and failed to threaten. ALL APAULOGIES broke a half-step slow, dropped back while urged along, went around the turn in the four then five path and was no factor. NYIKOS was hustled from the gate, moved to the lead then showed the way, was asked in the two path on the turn, lost the advantage near the five-sixteenths pole, dropped back under the crop into the stretch and faded. KIMBALL UNION ducked in at the start, moved off the rail early while urged along, dropped in late on the backstretch, saved ground on the turn and faltered.
