WHY NOTS A WYNNER away alertly and raced to the lead from along the rail entering the first turn, dictated the pace in the run down the backstretch, repelled the challenges of both CROWN COUNCIL and PRIME DIRECTIVE through the final turn, and inched clear in the lane to prove best. CROWN COUNCIL broke sharply and tracked the leaders from along the rail entering the first turn, eased off the rail midway down the backstretch to press the pace two wide from between rivals entering the final turn, was unable to match strides with the winner entering the lane, but finished willingly two wide in the drive to get the place. PRIME DIRECTIVE away well and chased the pacesetter into the first turn three wide, before assuming a tracking trip two out from the rail in the run down the backside, rallied three wide while battling for the lead into the final turn, and battled gamely three wide in the drive in a solid debut. MISS LARUE stalked the early pace while saving ground at the rail entering the backstretch, continued to save ground through the final turn, but failed to make a serious late impact when called upon. EXIT TUNNEL missed the break to get away slowly, but rushed up three wide entering the first turn to get into the mix, bore out to the middle of the track leaving the turn, drifted back down in the run to the final turn, but failed to mount a late bid when called upon. Following the running of this race the steward's conducted an inquiry into the start of the race, in particular to EXIT TUNNEL. After review there was no change to the original order of finish. This race was originally hand timed and was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate time.
