WAR SIGNAL set the pace unchallenged into the first of two turns, improved the advantage slowing the tempo down slightly along the backside, was headed outside by the winner at the five sixteenths pole, surrendered the front inside at the top of the lane, tried to fight back in mid-stretch but wilted on the rail in the final sixteenth. WATSONVILLE RED was bumped inside at the start, managed to save ground getting to the rail into the first turn while trailing in the early stages, narrowed the gap on the far turn, shifted outside at the quarter pole, had no rally outside in the six path in upper stretch, shifted back inside switching leads and found his best stride late closing in smartly at the wire.
