Chart notes
MONTEREY BAY rated kindly outside horses in midfield down the backstretch, confidently moved four wide outside runners at the three eighths pole taking closer order on the turn, swung out in the six path looming boldly in upper stretch, under a hand ride seized command with a furlong from the prize and drew off convincingly for the win when crossing the wire. PERFECTWORKS had a stalking role near the rear early on, sat all alone in mid-division midway around the bend making little progression, shifted out at the five sixteenths pole to be in the six path with a quarter mile from home, followed the eventual winner in upper stretch outside rivals and closed belatedly down the lane to be clearly second best on this day. MAGNA TIME settled between rivals watching the pacesetter in the early running. moved in to force the issue outside midway around the turn, angled out four wide poking his head in front at the top of the stretch, had no answer when the winner swept on by at the furlong marker and just missed saving the place share at the finish line. MO' SPRESSO was brushed outside on the break, travelled in mid-pack inside another down the back straight, waited just behind a wall of runners with three furlongs to go, was looking for a seam in upper stretch and finding clear run four wide at the eighth pole finished up mildly to be a fringe player in the end. PARADISE PERFECT broke out on the start, co-trailed inside in the beginning, lagged at the back of the pack around the turn, shifted out six wide straightening out for the drive and had late energy passing a few rivals outside in the last eighth of a mile. GOLDEN TRUTH was brushed inside on the break, kept a close eye on the frontrunner moving three deep along the backside, edged closer still three wide around the turn, shifted to the four path for clear run at the top of the lane and ran on evenly paced to the finish line. POLITICAL WARFARE was nudged on the rail forcing the pace in the early stages, had a good spot drafting just behind the frontrunner around the bend, moved in to be in the hunt at the top of the lane on the fence, fought on until the furlong pole and gave way inside runners by deep stretch. LIGHTNING LUTE was brushed inside on the start to co-trail three deep on the outside down the back straight, made a brief move outside foes going three wide at the three furlong pole, angled inwards to the rail in upper stretch but made little presence on the rail down the lane. CHASING MEMORIES had the lead just off the fence along the backside, continued up top but was pressured through the turn, was engulfed on both sides while three wide turning for home and wilted by the furlong pole. GUN FIRE was part of the back trio settling on the rail down the backside, had no rally to give while on the fence throughout the turn and while shifting out in the two path had little to offer in the stretch drive.
