Chart notes
SONIC POSSE made the front from the start, tried to temper the pace but was getting some pressure from just behind, held sway through the turn, then dug in under a threat from the quarter pole, had something left when called upon in upper stretch, and held clear to the wire under strong handling. SPOILER broke in and made contact with ILLUSTRATOR at the start, settled in a tracking position early, made a strong move through the turn to reach contention at the top of the stretch, finished willingly, but could not get to the winner. ILLUSTRATOR got bumped by SPOILER at the start, settled back, launched a bid midway on the far turn, came four wide into the stretch and finished well. KENTUCKY DAWN was having to be coaxed from the start, tracked close up to the inside, had to wait for running room through the turn, then lacked the needed response when clear. NEWS AT NINE raced close up through the clubhouse turn, tracked just off the pace three-wide under mild restraint, made a run at the leader approaching the quarter pole, had every chance, then was outkicked in the final yards. AARON saved ground, raced mid-pack a few lengths back, moved up to challenge on the turn but could not quicken with the rest of the field down the lane. WHISKEY NOT WINE hesitated slightly at the start, raced behind the field early, moved up to join the pack late on the backstretch, then lacked a finish and was outrun in the late stages.
