Chart notes
HAPPY STRIKE applied pace pressure to EMPIRE BUIDING leaving the first turn, continued to force the issue up the backstretch and around the far turn, advanced to challenge rival for the lead at the head of the lane, put a head in front near the furlong marker, edged ahead, remained confidently handled and held late. EMPIRE BUILDER broke sharp, cleared and crossed over to the inside around the first turn, came under pressure from outside running HAPPY STRIKE entering the backstretch, sat a pressured pace and held a slim lead around the far turn, took on the challenge from HAPPY STRIKE at the head of the lane, dueled, urged left handed, drifted in slightly and got headed for the lead, came under right handed pressure and dug back in gamely nearing the wire. ZATARA stalked the pace around the first turn and up the backstretch, called upon for more late on the far turn, came three entering the head of the lane, was no match for the top pair but ran on and cleared the rest. VALE hopped at the start and tugged slightly two wide while rated entering the first turn, settled into tracking position up the backstretch, weakened past the mid-way point around the far turn and continued to tire in the drive. MARINARA SAUCED was never involved.
