Chart notes
SUMTER settled a bit off the rail in the opening stages, chased outside WATSONVILLE into the far turn, reeled in GOLIAD late on the bend, put a head in front three wide turning for home, kicked clear under left-handed urging in upper stretch, hand urged into the final sixteenth, then coasted to the wire. ST ANTHONY laid off the pace on the inside, drew closer around the far turn still next to the fence, summoned a mild rally in the lane to gain second but failed to threaten the winner. WATSONVILLE was closest in pursuit from the two path early on, raced along the rail into the far turn, gained in tandem with SUMTER around the far turn, tipped two wide late on the bend, was no match for SUMTER in upper stretch and flattened to third. GOLIAD sprinted clear and angled in, kicked away on the clubhouse turn then opened up a big lead on the backstretch, came under a ride when feeling rivals closing in on the far turn, challenged by SUMTER late on that bend, relinquished the lead turning for home and weakened in the drive. MYSTIC SPIRIT unhurried outside a rival in the early going, continued two wide into the far turn, found the rail with a quarter mile remaining and was never a factor. NESSO'S LASTHARRAH hopped at the start, trailed on the inside and never got involved.
