Chart notes

POLTERER was bothered a bit after the break by FLYING SAMURAI but was still able to get a tracking position while that one went off to a big lead, was patiently handled to the far turn while racing well clear of the rest of the field, then advanced to close the gap on the rival late on the turn, took command near the quarter pole, then drew off as the rider pleased in the stretch. DANVILLE was pushed from the start to get a forward position, settled three-wide and near the rear of the field through the early stages, started to run on under a ride with three furlongs to run, came four-wide into the stretch, was never a threat to the winner but clearly outfinished the rest for second. REGIMENTAL was last through the first turn, settled four-wide down the backstretch, looked to make a move to the inside, then had to steady just past the five-sixteenths marker, lost momentum, but was able to re-gather and produce a grinding finish to get the third prize. MIDNIGHT BLUE NOTE settled along the rail at the front of the trailing group, in the middle of the strung-out field through the first half-mile, came under a stiff ride midway on the far turn but did not offer much in the way of a response. FLYING SAMURAI was roused at the break and sent for and secured the early lead, opened up a big lead down the backstretch, led the way into the far turn still ahead of the rest, had no response when overtaken by POLTERER at the quarter pole, and had nothing left for the stretch run. ICE SHARD was off slowly and climbing early on, was started to lose contact with the field after going a half-mile and had little to offer in the stretch.
