Chart notes
SHIPMATE showed good speed away from the start, contested the early pace then took command along the backstretch run, showed the way to the quarter marker while in hand, dug in when challenged by PIKE into upper stretch, repelled that rival into the final furlong and kicked clear under steady late urging. PIKE broke a step slowly leaving the start, recovered and settled off of the early pace while not far back, advanced into the turn then angled four wide nearing the quarter marker, bid two wide to upper stretch and confronted SHIPMATE nearing the furlong pole, was repelled into the final sixteenth and stayed on late to be a clear second. ROYAL RETINUE (IRE) vied for the early lead along the inside, took back and stalked the pace from the rail heading into the turn, chased SHIPMATE to the quarter pole, tipped out to upper stretch then was outkicked nearing the furlong marker, could not muster a final response but held well in the late stages for third. NICKEL C chased the early pace from between rivals, ran in pursuit two wide into the turn, shifted out and swung three to four wide to upper stretch, could not find more into the final furlong and gave way in the late stages. UNREACHABLE STAR broke out at the start and crowded a neighboring runner, raced close up to the early pace while outside of rivals, stalked the pace three wide into the turn, could not keep pace to upper stretch and tired in the drive. MY MAN MONEY was crowded a bit at the start and off slowly, unhurried along the backstretch, saved ground into the turn, trailed to the quarter pole and did not factor late.
