Chart notes
STAR MISSION got a clean break and was pushed to get forward position, tucked in behind the dueling early leaders on the first turn, with STANDARD OF PROOF shadowing to the outside, became boxed in heading into the far turn, bided time along the inside, angled out to the three path in upper stretch, and finished best to gain the victory. RIDE FOR GOLD was off slowly then unhurried and settled at the back of the field through the first half mile, started to run on midway down the backstretch to catch the main pack late on the turn, continued to rally through the stretch, but ran out of time. STANDARD OF PROOF tracked the pace two-deep alongside STAR MISSION, got first run into the stretch to put a head in front in upper stretch, and went by mid-stretch but could not hold off the winner in the final yards. SUPERSONIC ME settled in mid-pack through the early stages, moved up late on the far turn, then rallied with a decent effort four wide through the stretch but was not quite good enough. YELLOW JACKET dueled to the inside of WINE EMPIRE to the far turn, battled gamely into the stretch under threat, then weakened in the final furlong. FANCY DANCER settled well behind the pace, saved ground, tried to make a late bid, but raced on the wrong lead through the stretch and faltered. WINE EMPIRE dueled to the outside of YELLOW JACKET, weakened under pressure near the quarter pole and faded in the stretch. KNOCKOUT GUY did not show any early speed and trailed far back through the early stages, then was outrun in the stretch and never a factor.
