Chart notes
BERGHEIM dueled outside FORT HOOD from the outset, traded blows all the way to the wire, and got a favorable bob at the line to prevail in a thriller. FORT HOOD duleed inside of BERGHEIM from the start, battled relentlessly and gamely the wire only to come up short in a super effort. VIETNAM VICTORY did not engage in the early pace, was allowed to settle off the pace, swung four-wide into the stretch, and finished up well to gain the minor award well behind the top two. PAINTED LAD got off to an awkward start, then lost the path early, shifted to the outside and moved up to be just of the leaders heading into the turn, was under a drive from the quarter pole, but was outfinished for the minor award. RED SUMMERBIRD settled in near the back of the compact field along the rail, was without a clear path through the turn, came out in the stretch, but lacked a meaningful finish. BANDERA BLING tucked in behind the pace to the turn, responded when set down with three furlongs to run but flattened out by mid-stretch. SLIM JIMMY was void of early speed, dropped far back, drifted wide on the last bend, and never threatened.
