Chart notes
EXCELLENT EMPIRE settled off the pace, rallied on the turn, challenged for the lead in upper stretch, was bumped near the eighth pole and drew off. PONTUS was off slowly, taken outside and unhurried, dropped in entering the turn, closed along the rail and got up late for place. SPANISH DOUBLOON was away well, set the pace, came out under left handed urging, bumped EXCELLENT EMPIRE, dropped back and was caught for second. GRANDDADDYLONGLEGS stalked the pace, bid off the rail to loom a threat and came up empty late. PURPLE OCTOPUS raced mid pack in an even effort and failed to threaten. LAKE OF FIRE was not asked, fell far back and was eased.
