Chart notes
DADDY'S CODE broke sharply and seized the early lead, maintained a clear lead through the middle stages, then responded when asked to quicken from the three-furlong pole and widened the margin through the stretch. MARDI GRAS EMPIRE was unhurried from the break and settled near the back through the early stages, made a middle move on the rail through the far turn, was never getting to the winner but stayed on well under strong handling to take second. ISLAND CABANA tracked in the two-path in the third pair racing in mid-pack, moved out to the four-path midway through the turn to launch a bid, then produced a grinding finish to pick up the minor award. MOGUMBEAUX got caught four or five wide on the first turn, settled at the back early, was put into a sustained drive before the three-furlong marker, but was one-paced late and never a serious threat. FORMULATE raced in the middle of the field early, dropped back to last place before the far turn, then kept to task late and passed a couple of tired rivals. CUNIMBUS tracked the pacesetter in the second group to the stretch, then tired. INCHHIGHATAHUNDRED raced three-wide but close up through the first half-mile, then had nothing to offer late.
