THE KEY IS UNITY broke a step slow, chased three deep then outside a rival, went four wide around the turn, five wide into the stretch, rallied widest in the lane, dug in three deep, lost the bob at the wire but still hit the wire first. JAMES J. BRADDOCK broke well, got crowded between rivals and steadied early, chased three wide around the turn, four wide into the stretch, rallied widest, dug in three deep late, won the bob but still lost the photo. BET THE OM dueled from outside, brushed with inner rival at the top of the lane, inched ahead, led into deep stretch under fire from a pair of rivals on the outside and yielded grudgingly in the end. SIR NANO suffered a mild shuffle early then a bigger one nearing the half-mile pole, trailed on the inside through the turn, kept trying down the lane but could not threaten for the major awards. WHAT A RELIEF dueled from inside up the backstretch and around the turn, fought to midstretch and weakened in the late stages. DUE TO A TIMER MALFUNCTION THE FIRST RACE WAS HAND-TIMED.
