Chart notes
GRAND MORNING hustled to the lead away from the gate to open a clear lead on the first turn, slowed the tempo to tepid fractions maintaining the open advantage down the backside, repelled the bid of CRAFTY KING on the far turn, pulled away in upper stretch and held that position to the wire in a well handled ride. DEL RAYO was well placed along the fence tucked in behind the pacesetter to the top of the lane, rallied in upper stretch along the rail, tipped out inside the eighth pole for racing room brushing MAJOR THOMAS and finished well to be up for the place. CITY LEADER raced at the rear of the field under restraint with head cocked to the rail lacking clear running down the backside, waited through the turn while trapped on the inside, angled to the clear four wide in mid-stretch when the opportunity finally presented itself and surged from between horses in the late going. CRAFTY KING moved up to prompt the pace leaving the first turn, closed the gap to threaten nearing the quarter pole, failed to pass the pacesetter and kept-on through the lane. TOMMY BEE was prominently placed four wide in the first turn, settled off the pace to be the trailer down the backside, rallied circling the field turning for home and flattened out in the stretch. MAJOR THOMAS tracked the leaders from mid-pack through the final turn racing between rivals throughout, rallied mildly in upper stretch, evened out nearing the eighth pole unable to sustain the bid and was brushed late in the drive without consequence. MARSAC stalked the pace from four widedown the backstretch, narrowed the gap on the final bend and flattened out in the lane. THE TRAINER OF MAJOR THOMAS CLAIMED FOUL AGAINST THE RUNNER-UP FOR INTERFERENCE IN THE STRETCH, UPON REVIEW THE STEWARDS MADE NO CHANGE.
