ESSENCE L VEE broke a bit slow and spotted her two foes a couple lengths, saved ground on the first turn, moved up with six furlongs to run, contested the pace on the inside of SPIRIT FORWARD, took a short lead while along the rail on the far turn, came out under a strong hand-ride while dueling inside of READY ROSIE JANE in upper stretch, had the rider struggle to get the whip from her right-hand to her left-hand into the final furlong, avoided losing the crop while getting a hold of it near the crop end, was put back to strong hand-urging and fought on gamely into the final sixteenth, had the jockey right the crop about seventy yards from the finish and was given three consecutive pops, came back under a strong hand-ride late, had the elbows of the jockey get rubbed by the rider of READY ROSIE JANE in the final strides and determinedly prevailed. READY ROSIE JANE tracked the pace on the outside in the three path, was urged along late on the backstretch, chased in the three path on the far turn, gained to make a bid coming to the quarter-pole, battling outside of the winner under a strong hand-ride in upper stretch then drifted out a bit when put to a left-handed crop, switched to a right-handed crop and was given one pop inside the furlong marker, dueled head to head under strong hand-urging into the final sixteenth, had the rider throw several exaggerated crosses with her left-hand late, rubbed elbows with the rider of ESSENCE L VEE in the process and was denied. SPIRIT FORWARD was very fractious in the gate and charged the front of her stall, came off the inside early, went clear in the two path on the first turn, was challenged by the winner inside the three-quarter pole, contested the pace on the outside, vied in the two path while asked on the far turn, dropped back at the five-sixteenths pole, remained on her inside lead until just inside the three-sixteenths pole then swapped to the proper lead when pulled in by the rider and tired.
