RHYME AWAY was nudged to the early lead, inched clear from the nine sixteenths racing well within herself, set the pace in the two path on the turn, responded when pushed along into upper stretch, and continued to run on an insurmountable lead while mostly hand ridden, feeling the crop just once approaching the sixteenth pole. MINNY FOR THE MAX was bumped by CHARLIES MINT in the opening strides in the chain reaction from HEAVENSGOLDENGIFT breaking outward, chased toward the rear early outside DERBY DAY ROSE, bid in the three path between horses from near the furlong pole, had the leader in range until the quarter pole, proved no match for RHYME AWAY into the lane but chased on with good interest under a drive to prove clearly second best. CHARLIES MINT broke sharply despite being bumped between horses in the opening strides due to HEAVENSGOLDENGIFT breaking outward, stalked the leader early, raced three wide in the tracking flight into the turn, chased in the four path around the turn, came two wide into upper stretch, could not keep up with the leading pair in the lane, greenly drifted out and in while being driven in the lane but nonetheless held the show. HEAVENSGOLDENGIFT broke outward bumping CHARLIES MINT in the opening strides, soon trailed, continued to trail while urged in the two to three path on the turn, swung into the lane in the six path for the drive, and drove past a tiring horse late. DERBY DAY ROSE tracked the leading pair early, raced into the turn at the inside of the tracking flight, saved ground on the turn but was still no match for the leading pair past the three eighths, was driven along the rail in upper stretch and weakened.
