Chart notes
COBURG assumed control on the rail setting a soft even pace in the early stages, was headed outside at the quarter marker briefly, inched away in the two path from the outside threat taking the final corner, edged clear on the fence when roused for more at the sixteenth pole and under a well rationed out ride won comfortably in the end for the gate to wire tally. JUNIPERO SERRA was unhurried galloping along at the back of the pack, started to pick up runners while on the rail by the seven sixteenths pole, shifted out gathering more speed three wide with a quarter mile from the wire, was in full flight widest in the four path straightening out for the drive, and had a strong late charge outside foes in the last furlong to be a non-threatening second just besting the rest in a three way photo at the finish line. KING D'ORO travelled on the inside paired up with a rival near the rear, improved down the backstretch to sit in mid-pack by the half, was scrubbed on taking closer order at the quarter pole, shifted to the three path at the top of the lane and ran on willingly with rivals on both sides to capture the third place share while just missing out for the secondary share. WATSONVILLE RED had a good spot nestled under a snug hold on the rail staying in close contact with the engaged front duo, was hard ridden but could not match strides with the lead twosome who were quickening the pace at the quarter pole, skimmed the fence in the conversation turning for home but needed a bit more late inside just getting slightly outkicked in deep stretch losing the three way duel for the show money. TOUR THE CITY was content to sit just outside off the frontrunner hounding the pace, turned up the pressure when nudged for more run two wide at the quarter pole looking the pacesetter in the eye, battled outside the winner posing the main opposition at the head of the lane but could not find more in the late running and faded between horses in the final seventy yards losing a few placings late. TWOWAYCROSSING settled close to the back on the outside of another, was relegated to the rear at the seven sixteenths pole, lagged behind getting out three wide while under right-handed encouragement around the final bend and could not be a factor in the stretch running.
