Chart notes
BIG LEW bobbled inwards on the break, recovered quickly pressing the early pace inside in the beginning, seized control on the rail by the seven sixteenths pole, slipped away up top by the quarter marker, hugged the rail with a tenuous led inside two bearing down rivals in upper stretch but while never switching leads still dug in finding more in the final furlong to hold sway for the gutsy win. FIELD HOCKEY had a nice set up tucked in on the rail watching the engaged twosome at the half, sat posed at the five sixteenths pole drafting behind the leader, moved out two wide making a bid between rivals at the top of the stretch but just could not go by the winner through the stretch drive. AUTOBAHN ACE was in tight being squeezed by runners on both sides at the start, trailed the field regaining composure down the backside, moved in smartly on the rail by the five sixteenths pole, had to wait full of horse two wide behind a wall of runners with a quarter mile to go, shifted out getting clear aim on the lead pair outside at the head of the lane but when called upon failed to fire and idled in the final furlong to only be a clear third at the finish line. BANK ON BIG WINNER broke out at the start, had only one runner beaten going down the backside, travelled three to four wide making no headway outside runners through the turn, swung out widest in the six path in upper stretch and ran on mildly to be well behind the top three settling on the fringes in the end. SMARTER STILL had a good spot outside tracking the lead duo, came under a ride three wide in midturn with little response, tried to hold position with the field bunching up at the quarter pole, angled out to the five path for the drive to the wire but had little left and wilted by mid-stretch. SCOTTIE'S BARN was hustled outside having a slim lead early on, relinquished the top spot to an inside runner heading into the turn, could not match strides with that new leader by the quarter pole even though under a drive and emptied out in the three path when turning for home.
