Chart notes

ARTFUL DIAMOND was unhurried trailing the field outside in the early going, started to advance outside rivals at the half, ranged up four wide circling horses being scrubbed on for more by the rider midway along the turn, had a full head of steam lengthening stride in the four path in the thick of things at the head of the lane, seized control by the furlong marker and had to be ridden out to the wire successfully fending off the outside runner up in the final seventy yards. RUTHLESS ACTION broke a step slow on the start, moved up smartly on the fence by the five eighths pole, dropped back seeing the field at the half, started to make a move shifting to the outside in midturn, rallied widest in the five path looming boldly at the top of the stretch, would not switch leads through the drive while still kept edging closer at the furlong pole but needed a bit more in the late going unable to get by the winner in deep stretch. BEAU PINK pressed the pace on the inside initially, moved well saving all the ground around the turn drafting behind the pacesetter while under a good hold waiting for the cue to go, skimmed the fence at the top of the lane reaching for more ground, bid inside three others arguing up top at the furlong marker but could not go on with the top duo by the sixteenth pole and still finishing up well enough to be all alone at the wire for the show award. SURFSIDE BEACH was away alertly having the early lead outside, cleared away crossing over getting to the fence by the seven sixteenths pole, controlled the pace slowing the tempo down unopposed around the oval, had a tenuous advantage in the three path between foes in upper stretch, relinquished the lead to the winner outside at the eighth pole and faded in the late going holding for a minor award in the end. DI CAPRI travelled three deep watching the loose leader with a half mile still to run, continued three wide but was now between runners chasing the pacesetter through the bend inching up closer by the quarter pole, remained in the three path in behind the frontrunner turning for home but failed to fire lacking a rally in the final furlong. HOT STUFF BABY tracked the frontrunner between rivals at the half, was driven on in the two path in with rivals on either side making no headway on the leader while just trying to hold forward position through the turn, began to retreat by the quarter pole and came up empty just off the fence by the furlong marker.
