Chart notes
TALK OF THE NATION tracked Smokey Mandate through the far turn racing two deep, dug in mid stretch and prevailed late under all out pressure. WADSWORTH settled off the early going, advanced through the turn racing three to five deep, raced from the outside in the stretch run and finished gamely to the wire. SMOKEY MANDATE showed good early foot to set the early pace, dug in late and gave way grudgingly. GASLIGHT DANCER rated two deep early on, dug in between rivals in the stretch run and was outfinished. HIGHWAY ROBBER was off slowly, raced near the back of the pack early, was along the inside into the upper stretch, angled out raced even with no late run. MAJOR DUDE unhurried early on, raced five deep into the upper stretch, shifted in through the drive and had no response. ESCAPE ARTIST settled off the early pace and weakened through the stretch run while racing near the inside. COMMUNICATION MEMO stalked the early pace, raced three to four wide around the far turn and faded.
